Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful time with loved ones no matter where in the world you are and may 2016 bring you everything you wish for and more! 🙂 Many people spend this time of the year looking back at the wonderful year they have had, but I thought why don’t we look forward to 2016. 2015 has been a great year for movies with Avengers: Age of UltronPitch Perfect 2, Jurassic World, Spectre, Straight Outta Compton, Furious 7, Hunger Games finale, Star Wars: The Force Awakens and many many more BUT 2016 is looking to be a pretty awesome movie year too. Here are some of the movies that I am excited to see next year and their trailers. So check them out and let me know which ones you’re excited for!

Deadpool – February 12

I love superhero movies (as you will see from this list) but Deadpool is a character that is so amazingly unique. Played by Ryan Reynolds he is just unlike any other superhero. Check out the trailer and you will see what I mean.

How to be Single – February 12

Rebel Wilson. Need I say more? No, but seriously if you are looking for a good chick flick/comedy I think this one has the most potential. I really hope it doesn’t let us down.

Gods of Egypt – February 26

I love movies based on mythology and ancient times so I am looking forward to this movie! I can’t tell from the trailer if it will live up to expectations so let’s see.

Me Before You – March 4

The trailer for this movie hasn’t come out yet but this movie is based on a bestselling novel by Jojo Moyes. I plan on reading it before the movie is out so I will let you know what I think. BUT the movie features Emilia Clarke (you may know her better as Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones) and Sam Claflin (who played the adorable Finnick from Hunger Games and Alex from Love, Rosie) so I will probably watch it either way.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice – March 25

The title says it all but the trailer makes a pretty good case for the movie too. Anyway Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, who doesn’t want to watch? Plus Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor. I rest my case.

Jungle Book – April 15

I have always loved the original version of this so I am excited to see how this version turns out.

Captain America: Civil War – May 6

I know I know, another superhero versus superhero movie but which Marvel fan is not excited for this? So many other awesome Marvel characters will be making an appearance too.

X-Men Apocalypse – May 27

Another franchise, another sequel but I can’t not include it. I love so many of the actors/actresses and I also loved the previous X-Men movies!

Alice through the Looking Glass – May 27

The sequel to Alice in Wonderland (2010) is being released next year. Although the first movie was not a huge success the trailer for this one looks pretty good and I plan on giving it a second chance.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows – June 3

I loved this show as a kid and I also loved the first movie released in 2014 so I am definitely looking forward to the sequel. Bonus for Arrow fans, Stephen Amell is in it! He plays Casey Jones in the movie.

Now You See Me 2 – June 10

The first movie was one of my favourite movies from 2013. Even though Isla Fisher isn’t in the sequel, it does feature Daniel Radcliffe and Lizzy Caplan (Janis from Mean Girls). For my Taiwanese followers Jay Chou also features in it!

Finding Dory – June 17

You have probably already seen this but in case you haven’t DORYYYYY !! I cannot wait. It took 13 years for them to make this (yes, Finding Nemo really is from 2003. I know I feel old too) but it is finally here!

Central Intelligence – June 17

Kevin Hart always makes me laugh and combined with Dwayne Johnson, this movie looks pretty funny. It is by the directors of We are the Millers so I am expecting the same kind of weird yet still funny humour.

Independence Day: Resurgence – June 24

Another sequel that has taken long – 20 years to be exact! Featuring young actors such as  Liam Hemsworth, Joey King, and Maika Monroe.

The Legend of Tarzan – July 1

3 weeks ago Warner Bros released this teaser trailer and the world went wild for Alexander Skarsgård. Topless jungle man aside, I love Tarzan and the story. I really hope this version is able to maintain the magic of the original.

The BFG – July 1

As a kid Roald Dahl was my favourite author and The BFG was one of my favourite books. I always said it would make a great movie and now that wish is finally coming true! I can’t wait to see how Disney & Spielberg bring it to life. In case you don’t know what BFG stands for it is Big Friendly Giant 🙂

Star Trek – July 22

Another franchise. Another sequel. Another movie with high expectations. Let’s see!

Suicide Squad – August 5

Since the trailer was revealed at Comic-Con earlier this year it has been shared and discussed over the internet. The trailer is dark and slightly gruesome. In short it looks pretty awesome.

The Girl on the Train – October 7

The trailer for this movie isn’t out yet as they are still filming (I think). However, if you really wanna prepare yourself and you haven’t already, read the book! It is a really great mystery novel that got a lot of recognition in 2015 so check it out!

Doctor Strange – November 4

I love Marvel and I love Benedict Cumberbatch so I cannot wait to see how they bring Doctor Strange to life on the big screen. The trailer isn’t out yet but here is a short message from the D23 panel earlier this year.

Fantastic Beats and Where to Find Them – November 18

Harry Potter prequel + Eddie Redmayne + Ezra Miller + Colin Farrell… need I say more? Check out this first preview to get a small taste of what is to come.

There are so many more movies being released next year. For a complete list check out this website: http://www.movieinsider.com/movies/-/2016

N.B. the release dates mentioned in this post are the first official release dates which are most likely for the US. For your local release dates check IMDb.

I realize that the movies in this list are mostly sequels or adaptations. Although this is pretty representative for the movie industry, I am hoping that there will be some more original movies that shine in 2016. The reason why they don’t show up here (and probably also in general in cinemas) is that adaptations and sequels tend to have an existing fan base which fuels a buzz and creates excitement that original movies lack. Either way, which movies are you looking forward to? Are there any that I missed? Let me know in the comments below or tweet me @thelydiareview! Don’t forget to subscribe

Love to all ❤
